FS: Scarpa Freney Mountaineering Boots size 46

Hey all,

I have a near new pair of Scarpa Freney XT boots in size 46 for sale.
I purchased these around October 2008, but they haven't seen a lot of use.

They were used for a few training (and breaking in) walks late 2008, and then were used for a 10day Technical Mountaineering Course with Alpine Guides in New Zealand in Jan 2009. After that they didn't get worn for a long time as I had a foot injury. I tried them on a trip to the Vic Alps in August last year, but after the accident my foot changed enough that I can't tolerate wearing them for even a short trip anymore. They haven't been worn since.

They are in good condition, both the soles and the uppers show only light signs of wear.

These boots are fully rigid, so suitable for a "Cramp-o-matic", step-in style crampon binding. They have an asymmetrical last, which surprisingly gives them the ability to deal with medium-wide feet, but work for narrower feet too. I don't reckon they'd work for someone with superwide feet (thats my problem with them now).
The ankle is well articulated, so you get what I reckon is a nice level of support but still have plenty enough flexibility for flat footing or climbing on rock.
These boots are easily warm enough for NZ summer trips, and I saw a few pairs out and about around Canada during March while ice climbing, but I certainly wouldn't recommend them for regular use much below -10.
As fully rigid boots go, they are lighter than many other leather/synthetic options out there (eg La Sportiva Nepals).

When purchased they had the outrageous retail price of $800AUD. Obviously that's a sign of the Aussie markets' normal problems with imported gear. I'm asking $300, but if you're interested, post here or send me a PM.

There boots are still sitting in my boot rack at home needing a new pair of feet and a trip to the mountains.

Are you interested in buying them?
If so, how does $300 inc postage to Sydney sound?

Hi mike,yeh I'm interested.i am actually size 45,are these ok with thick socks.are they compatible with most crampons.i am doing some research on scarpa at mo but am keen.is there any room to move on the price?cheers matt

Hi Matt,

I'm size 45 too, and found I needed the 46 to stop my toes touching the front of the shoe when I kicked. I found I would wear a thin pair of liner socks, and a thick pair of hiking socks over the top and found this worked well when these boots fit me.

They are certainly compatible with a range of crampons. I was using Grivel G12s with them and they were a perfect fit, but also have tried BD and Petzl on them (not used them, but I've attached them) and not noticed any issues.

There's a bit of space to move on the price. What kind of figure did you have in mind?

Hi mike,I am currently trailing Olympus mons but not suiting me.i am still doing some research on options.if you find an alternative offer,please do not wait for me as I anticipate it maybe a month or 2 prior making a decision.that being said I am not ruling out your scarpa.i will keep you posted

I don't think there's a line up for these boots, this original post was about two years old!

The Olympus are a very different boot than the Freney, so the decision between the two will probably come down to how cold it is when you're climbing. For NZ, the Olympus would be way overkill, where as for the Denali or Himalaya, the Freneys might leave you with cold feet.

Let me know if you're keen for them, and think of a price too, happy to discuss numbers whenever.
