'Hold onto your hat Tas Alex. Sale posts are copping it lately:)'

Not true.
Sales posts by new members that only posts sales are copping it.

Legit members/climbers will/have not suffered such a fate.

So to continue, original poster's profile says the last 5 posts of their meager post count is, surprise, surprise, 'For sale'.
So go for it, let the games begin........

I'll give you $90 if you can post it to Queensland.

You sure do have alot of useless posts in for sale threads? Hmm...

I got time to waste on posts that I dislike that clog up the front page.
A little bit of social engineering.

All for sale only posters cop shite, simple as that.
With any luck they will go away.

Not true. 4/5 of his last posts have been for sale, the one that wasn't was in the fabric for portaledge discussions. Are you actually looking at the posts lists, not just the recent topics list that he created? I'm sure there's a lot of users on here that haven't started many topics, particularly people that don't post much, and would have quite a few for sale topics in their recent ones.

I've just been through all 33 of his posts. He joined, he bought some stuff off people, he posts some tid bits here and there, he sells some stuff. All up maybe 50% of his posts are in thread where he's selling stuff.

As for "I got time to waste on posts that I dislike that clog up the front page" that makes no sense. The more you post on it, the more it's on the front page, the more it 'clogs things up'. Sounds a little against your stated self interest.

If these threads annoy you, click the hide topic button and forget about them.

I vouch for alex. Now that the awesome and powerful weight of Ambyeok's very own personal endorsement has been bestowed upon him I am sure everything will be fine.

glib, but not helpful.

a) there is no option to hide "for sale" threads before I even have to waste time looking at them (yes, if I could hide the entire "For Sale" forum off the front page, I would)

b) the hide topic button doesn't even appear on the OP in a thread - it only appears once a thread has at least 2 posts. So each thread annoys us at least twice.

c) repeat offenders just keep annoying us with new threads - each of which will anoy me at least twice.

d) I have so many Hidden Topics (must be thousands) that the chockstone database times out trying to show me the list - so I can't even manage it.

I.e. don't be calling "hide topic" the perfect solution. (with the usual disclaimer - Mike's done a great job to give us the functions available)

IMO time-rich users who want to see this stuff would NOT be disadvantaged if it was weeded out of Chockstone - it takes no time to find other sites for this, there are heaps of them. However, time-poor users most certainly ARE disadvantaged by having to continually hoe through this garbage to find good Aus climbing content - which does not exist anywhere else on the web.

[edit: tas_alex, not specifically having a go at you, you are at least selling climbing gear which is more than can be said for some others]

so i dont post much on a victorian climbing forum. hardly surprising since i dont live in Victoria and have climbed there very little. I also spend most of my time climbing, not posting on chockstone, unlike most people here it seems.

"You sure do have alot of useless posts in for sale threads? Hmm..."
have sold a lot of gear through here yes, mostly via pm. whats your point?

have all the dribble you want on this thread, but if anyone wants a cheap rope then get in touch

If you really want, add &replies=2 to the end of the url for the thread and the hide topic button appears even if there's only one post. Dirty and a pain I know, but you can do it. Or, like I do with spam threads, reply with "post so I can ignore thread" or whatever and then ignore it.

I wonder if Mike could update this to be the default view for all thread or add the hide thread button to the page displayed when a thread only has one post?

Who's to say people don't feel the same about asinine posts that you or I put up about what's the best blah blah blah...! I vote that all new users should be given forum "training wheels", where they can only post to certain areas of the forum until their esteemed peers, obviously more distinguished and egalitarian users, think they are responsible enough to move into the big kids forums.

Kinda like the Masons.

exactly.
some of us don't really care what "insert equipment here" are made from, or how thick and sticky stealth rubber is. I do like reading your trip reports, about accidents and for sale sections. If you would like me to post about s*ite for the sake of posting then I can start (social engineering), and then graduate to the big kids for sale section. But to tell you the truth I'd rather be climbing than posting.
