When you look at a post, the left hand side column says Author and in it appears their User ID, along with a little envelope icon.
Click on the envelope icon and it will bring up a Personal Message template to fill in.
Enter your message, then click OK at the bottom of the template to send it.

When you receive a PM, you will notice a green 'PM' message alert at the upper part of whatever page that you are viewing, provided that you are logged in.
If you are not logged in you won't see it, and it will lie dormant until you do log in.

There is a limit of 100 to the amount of PM's that you can have and this includes across all boxes, ie sent, received, and saved. Once you reach 100 you will be unable to send or recieve any until you delete/clear some from those boxes.
