Does anyone have any old climbing ropes no longer fit for climbing lying around doing nothing?
I'm looking to try out tying some into a door mat.
Happy to purchase cheaply or if you have a few and want a new mat we could work something out.
I'm based in South Melbourne.

Hey Mate,
I am wanting to make a door mat as well.
Are you able to give me some pointers on the best way to make a mat.
Cheers

I have an old rope. It's probably only ~30m long now that I cut bits off for kids playground stuff... It's all yours if you want it. I work in Sth Melb if you want to arrange for pick up.

Have you found one you want to make?
- once you've decided what knot to do practise with a small rope first.
- tie it very loose so you have plenty of room to double, triple it.
- be prepared to spend a lot of time tightening up the mat a little at a time (to avoid distorting the shape)
- if you start with a really long rope don't cut it until you've finished the mat.
Have fun!

Just head out to Arapiles if you want some old ropes. I saw plenty left just lying around on the ground when a couple of mates and I were out for a walk at Dec Crag the other day
