so my g/f and i are heading to canada in dec for a year We'll be climbing and skiing and prob a bit of mountaineering. I'll be taking my rack but buying most other gear over there. I'm not really a big believer in travel insurance but would like to be covered medically. So insurance of gear would probably only be necessary for the plane trip. i've heard that their medical system is harsh and that they wont touch you unless you've got insurance.
What have others done or experienced, heard?
Cheers

I've never had to use it but http://www.ihi.com/ cover everything except motor sport racing (usual war zone disclaimers etc.) but rope sports are explicitly in.
That said I had a friend who said hello to a tree while skiing in Canada and the whole thing was taken care of via his Mastercard/Visa Gold (or something) bundled travel insurance.

Just about to head to Vietnam and hope to do some climbing there.
I haven't fully reviewed the policy yet as we don't leave for a month but it looks like http://www.insure4less.com.au/ will cover us for a travel insurance including climbing.
I would be interested if anyone else had used insure 4 less and had any good or bad reports.

I was going to say IHI as well. Never had to use them myself, but I've heard a few internet/2nd hand comments from base jumpers that they were really good when claims were made.
The basic policies focus on medical/evac/repatriation, but they do lost baggage, cancellations etc as optional extras too.
