Sit-starts - do they affect route grades? |

Context: Some young guy (ok, Magnus Midtbo) just completed Ali Hulk sit-start which is apparently a 37? (5.15b / 9b) and the second confirmed at the grade after one of Chris Sharma's climbs (Jumbo Love is unconfirmed, it's one of his Spanish ones).
Ali Hulk itself is graded at 35-36 depending on who you ask.
From what footage I've seen, Ali Hulk is weird in that it's just a very long campussing problem on some monos which only a mutant could complete.
Regardless of this, is it legit to add a sit-start to a route and upgrade it? Could Wheel of Life be called 5.15b rather than 5.14d if you added one more extra-hard move? Or V17? |
