OT: Where to get fishing bait near Pt Perp

G'day chockies, I'm going to be climbing at Pt Perpendicular next weekend. However the people I climb with tend to be late risers so I thinking about bringing down some of my fishing gear as well. Now my question is where is a good place to buy bait along the way from Sydney to Pt Perpendicular. I probably won't be bringing an esky, so the closer it is to my final destination the better.

Get it from the town of Currarong which is just outside the entrance of the park.

I don't think there's much bait there, except maybe in the general store.

Back up the road towards Nowra is Culburra which has a few more shops than Currarong. There's a proper fishing tackle shop there which carries all sorts of stuff.

Don't buy bait, all you have to do is to collect your own. Take a small cast net and you can also find those red crabs in amonst the rocks. Those things are awesome for bream bait.

Agree with that. I've caught poddy mullet in the creek in Currarong also.

Cast nets are verboten in NSW. A bunch of other poddy traps are fine though.

Forget the bait, grab a kayak and head up the river for some fine bass and bream action on lures mate!

I'm bringing my harpoon, you can borrow it in the morning. I didn't manage to get anything last time but I wasn't really trying that hard. It will keep you busy until the sun comes up at least. Actually, I forbid you to come back until well after the sun is up.

Average prawns and stuff ('Tweed" Brand, etc) can be bought from pretty much any servo on the coastal roads between Cairns and Perth. This will include the stretch of Highway 1 between Sinny and The Point (ie, along the Princes Highway).

For better bait you could try the Bait Shack nr Tom Ugly's Bridge (north side), on the southbound side of the road, or some of the tackle shops.

Nowra has tackle stores on the drag in South Nowra.

Don't forget your licence as long weekend at the Point and surrounds is a good hunting time for Fisheries inspectors. Be aware of Marine Park boundaries as well.

You could use soft plastics and require no refrigeration at all (or have proper class and throw flies).

The sun is up when I get up, usually anyway... Thanks for all the responses guys, I'll try to catching the some of my own bait as it'll give me something extra to do in the morning.

I guess everyone seems like a late riser when you get up at 5am...

Use cunjevoi or other rock weed to catch your first fish.
Use your first fish as bait for the bigger variety.
