Hi,
I'm from France and I will spend one year in Australia mainly for climbing. I'll arrive around june or july in Melbourne.
What are the best places for bouldering in Victoria?
What is the weather in Arapiles or Grampians at this period?
Many thanks in advance for your advice!
Hope to meet some of you on the rocks!

I have no idea why there's a poll, but I voted no because you had the word "Victoria" in the subject. Nothing but choss south of the border...

I've used the wrong button... new poll instead of new topic.

The Grampians and Arapiles!

Cold and possibly wet. Much of the bouldering in the Grampians is in caves so bad weather isn't really a problem. Friction is good.
There is lots of info about Grampians bouldering here:

I voted 'no' because it had the word bouldering in the subject.

Yes, I break out in a rash whenever I am exposed to bouldering, unless...
1. I have got the problems wired
2. Alcohol is available
3. Girls are there

Was that 'any one of the above' or are all three required?

There is some bouldering supposedly - but it's few and far between and not popular at all. The rock is generally quite rough and featureless.

I agree, there's only a few established boulder problems on the whole mountain.

At that time of year (June/July) you will be bouldering with ice tools and crampons. Mt Buffalo is in the Victorian Alps (which are nothing like the French Alps btw) and is under a blanket of snow between June - August. Certainly it'll be too cold and wet there to even consider bouldering (on rock).
Both Araps and the Grampians will be perfect in terms of temperatures for bouldering, tho the Gramps (as Neil said) can get wet at that time of year...which isn't an issue in a cave...good friction, good temps and less people...winter is a perfect time of year to visit IMHO

Thus demonstrating that there are only queers who wear funny underpants, north of the boarder.
