Yep it's true, the greatest climbing movie of all time looks set for a comeback with Sly reprising his role as Gabe "ropes are for pussies" Walker. I'm just hoping the mythical bolt gun makes a return appearence.

What're the odds that Sly makes a cameo?
Maybe as campsite dirt-bag, stoned off his chops and complaining that people don't wear enough lycra these days.

Anyone find it ironic that "Original Films" is one of the companies doing the remake/second cliffhanger?

Cliffhanger 2 - awesome! Can't wait for Vertical Limit 2 also!!! I have picked up so many climbing tips from these two quality movies..... Like carrying dynamite up 8000m peaks, how to free climb in the Rockies, and my 2 absolute favourites....
1: how to leap across a gaping chasm with an ice tool in each hand and land safely on the opposite cliff
2: after sliding down an ice slope for a couple of hundred meters you manage to successfully self arrest just as your feet go over the cliff at the bottom...

I also like the medical education of these movies - like the fact that hypothermia is very much overrated since sly recovered from his in about 15 seconds....

Hollywood has given us some fantastic instructional blockbusters on how to climb!

Guess at any new stunts anyone?

A boulder mat that is good for the highball off El Cap?
Jumping off soloing with a BASE-jumping batsuit
Deep water soloing leading to a "Big Blue" type freedive, into the Soviet/Arab submarine torpedo tubes
Long falls unzipping multiple gear
Dynoing for handjambs, backwards
Freesoloing wearing Borat gear

Well they were all reasonable suggestions except for that last one!

Maybe they'll try to instill some realism and show someone getting nervous on the ledge below the second bulge on D Minor, only to finally scrunch up the courage, shudder and shake over the bulge only to have their gear fall out once they're above it. I find that regularly makes for exciting viewing!

That sound of gear popping and looking down to see it spiralling down the rope does have a certain puckering ability, doesn't it?

It's funny how the non climbing public perceives stallone... I had a guy last night tell me how good a climber stollone is and how hard he trained for that roll and how he did all his own stunts......

Despite my best efforts to educate him on the "truths" and "myths" about climbing he still thinks; we bolt on the fly, dyno freesolo roofs is a common practise and gear failure is a regular occurrence....

Personally i'd like to see the most outrangous moves from all hollywood climbing films combined into the ultimate v18 move...

Opening Scene cliffhanger 2, starts with a chase leading to:
A jump accross a 20 metre casm (matrix style) dropping down to latch a pinch (with the tips of your fingers) on the bottem tip of a stallictite with a huge drop below, then as your legs come through double backflip and latch a finger slot jam pinky finger style on an overhang, soloing with alligaters snapping at the bottem with lava flowing from the sides and 2000 Ninja's flicking ninja stars as you go, indians with fire lit arrows and some snipers accross the valley for good measure. Of course you've been shot 12 times by this stage and have 3 ninja stars in your back but your training will see you through.....

Gunna be good....
