I tend to agree, though I really like Committed as well. Hard trad nutters.

Let's get it out of the way right now - Cliffhanger!
How many times have you hauled a second up onto a belay ledge for them to look at you and say 'you resilient bastard' - best line John Lithgow ever had in movies!
How much have you wanted one of those rocket propelled bolt guns that shoots the bolt plus hanger straight into the rock ready for use (makes ground-up ascents a lot easier!)
Who could ever forget 'The Making of Cliffhanger' when Sly finishes hurling dumbbells around the gym, looks the camera in the eye and slurs 'Uuuuuugh they say doin' comedy's tough!'
Shoot me down in flames but I think it's probably the greatest climbing film in the partial-English speaking world!

I'll have to check out First Ascent
Can it really be better than "Scream of Stone" though?

OK Yank, Bring your toys and we'll stitch a ladder up the Sydney Tower and get our pictures in Zoo magazine. It'll make us both very sexy!
Beat that Alain Robert!

All those Peter Mortimer films are great. I often have one playing while I workout.
The Sharp End (2007)
King Lines (2007)
First Ascent (2006)
Return2Sender (2005)
Front Range Freaks (2003)
Also checkout Consumed. It was filmed by a bunch dirtbaggers in the Peak district.
Just a bunch of bold ground up ascents of all your favorite grit stone climbs. Some
seriously hard men.

This is a very general question.
Are you after a recommendation for lightweight entertainment or a serious representation of climbing in a movie style format?

I caught a short 30 minute thing on One a few weeks (maybe months) back - it was a random 'Extreeeeeeeme Sport' sort of show but this episode was climbing AND shot in the Blueies. with Garth Miller, two other guys (sorry I can't remember who_ and an interview with Simon Carter. Some nice climbing footage at Shipley (that had me thinking that 28 looked so easy) but for no obvious reason there was about 10 minutes of some random emo band and no climbing. grr.
anyway - maybe we need to start a "set your DVR for Climbing on One HD" thread so we can all catch these things rather than hear about them after the fact?

Spencer Tracy and Robert Wagner in "The Mountain". It's about the climb, not the people who climb it.

Also To the Limit with the Huberbaum was really good too. Onsight is another from england that makes you want to be a better climber.
