That 'sport' has actually received criticism in the US because it is very destructive. The undergrowth gets trampled while people stumble around tossing/finding sandbags, jugging and pulling the ropes cuts into the bigger branches, smaller branches in the way get snapped off as people jug up and rap off, and people chasing "first ascents" are thrashing into previously untouched forests - and their prime targets are the biggest old growth trees.
not that climbing is completely immune to similar criticism...
