Hi is anyone aware of a sight that gives fairly updated snow coverage for Feathertop? You can access the weather cam from Hotham but this can be deceiving, Cheers..

The Backcountry section may be most useful, also look at Snowtalk or Hotham threads.

According to ABC radio news this morning Falls Ck apparently has 78 cm at the moment. Less in other places. Buffalo has patchy snow and is "good for sightseeing".

Checking the snow reports this morning Hotham has about 29cm of natural coverage. Feathertop in the distance via the cams looks pretty solid however as I'm lead to believe you're probably looking for about 50cm of coverage to make a good weekend of it at Feathertop.
Hey, where is the best place to leave my car for a couple of days as I plan to walk out across the Razorback? I gather leaving it at Diamontina hut is out of the question this time of year?

Try the NSW bom site for the Snowy Mtns. It has a snow depth reading for 3 different elevations from
Snowy Hydro, which doesn't inflate the depth like resorts do. You can extrapolate from that for where ever
you want to go. It’s only update once a week though.

Falls are only claiming 39cm on their web site.

78 vs 39

I might have misheard the radio but this sounds like deflation to me, depending when their website was last updated?

Either way, it is still early season ...

Have left my car there before when been across the Razorback in winter so don't think you will have an issue. Just take some chains as it can be really icy there.

I've never had a problem leaving the car at Diamantina in winter, though I've not parked there at times of heavy snow fall (wouldn't want to be on Feathertop in bad weather anyway). Having said that, I reckon the best way to ski Feathertop is to park at Harrietville, chatch the bus to Diamantina, and walk back down to the car when you've finished.

Yeah thats an option, im not skiing though I'm taking my young fella for a snow shoe hike for a couple of days and lazily feel like traversing the razorback at this stage and maybe descending to Harrietville, either way its good to hear leaving the car at the hut is an option.

If my memory serves me correctly there is a water tank up there (when its not frozen over), can anyone confirm who's been up there recently that its all clear (that and the hut in general)? Going for a hike via bungalow spur and will be there 3 days. Fingers crossed we get some clear weather to get to the summit.

Clear weather in 3 days Sabu? Someone teach this guy to read a weather report. It is going to be farking pumping in 3 days, and I am hitting bogong on the weekend cos of that.....

TIP: Tell the person at the gate (if it's the Makalu chick with dreads yourin for sure) that you are walking the Razorback, and you migt just get in for free...saved me a few hundred bucks....

It looks like we're about to get a really good blast - see the 850hPa temp chart at:

http://www.bom.gov.au/cgi-bin/nmoc/latest_Y.pl?IDCODE=IDYTX000.850T.000

It looks like we are going to get snow for the rest of the week.

It's still a bit too warm at the moment, but there is plenty of moisture around. We just need that cold blast tomorrow and it should start dumping.

Warning all - it's about to get fricken cold.
