"Scream of Stone" is awesome. We all thought it was really bad (but classic nonetheless) until the
end, which is a great plot twist. Best line in the film is when the crazy American who lives in the
boulders randomly stumbles into a room and says, "Hey man, got any chocolate?" Also, the climbing
scenes are ace and real. They manage to drop babes into every scene totally at random, it's
hilariously euro.
Huber film is good too, high drama.
Eiger Sanction!
Wait till the kidnapping movie comes out. No car crashes so we'll have to hope for lots of helicopter
explosions. Maybe like when Rambo shoots one down with an exploding arrow except it'll be a
canister stove into the rotors.
There's also an old film (early 70's) called "El Capitan" about 4 guys climbing the Nose. It's a stellar
classic but I doubt you'll churn up a copy down here. If you ever get a chance, grab it.
Also, early 80's doco "On the Rocks" has some awesome scenes with Tony Yaniro, Warren Harding
(and his mother, drinking on the front porch- "I came out there to that El Capitan in an old house dress
and yelled up, "you old coot, come down from there!") and others. This film also produced one of the
best climbing quotes ever. Jerry Moffat: "...there's a lot of competition over here in Europe and you
know, when you reallllly burn somebody off [smiling broadly] it's just...it's just the best feeling." |
