It's definitely illegal to climb there....
And given that you have to actually pay to get into the park itself, it's hardly worth it. Just go to Camels Hump instead. (on a hot day though... it's icy up there.)
cheers.

Speaking of which, are you camping at Macedon on Saturday? If you are, how about a lift for me and Jacki :) .... Also, I've got a spare 10 metres of ex-climbing rope for you if you don't have any.

You have to have public liabitly and it just so happens that my climbing club has that insurance. you can join for $10 bucks a year and have acsess to all the gear you will need. so it you want to climb there join South Port Climbing Club Email the president Simon Duncan is you want to be a part. simonduncan@itl.com.au

Can someone clarify exactly what the details are on climbing at Hanging Rock?
Parks (or whoever it is who manages the place) will let you if you have your own public liability insurance?

Yeah basically the people who run the joint will allow it provided you have the insurance; our club did a bit of climbing there a few years ago...

It does have a big sign at the entrance saying no climbing, abseiling,etc.. It didn't have 'conditions apply' written on it

yeh we were there on sunday for the teva adventure series (ow soore legs) and whilst running past we breifly checked out the rock.. it certainly needs a good wire brushing in the areas we saw.. very mossy and prehistoric looking! But I'm sure there are walls there that weren't so mossy.
But does anyone know where it actually says that u can climb there with PL insurance?
