A very experienced skydiver with thousands of jumps under his belt, jumped out of a plane without a parachute. He mistook the weight of a camera for his usual pack…
After realising, he tried to steer his body towards trees, as you can do by body shape, and when he neared the forest, he tried to relax his body as much as possible (I don’t think I would have the frame of mind), and let the branches break his fall.
Needless to say, he survived and even walked (crawled) out of the forest with broken ribs, legs and arm. No internal injuries or broken neck.
Just shows how complacency can make a pool out of you. At least he had the know-how on approach.
Can’t access the link above, but what I learned from parachuting is that you have to keep your feet/ankles together, so they don’t snap. Then roll to one side over your knees across your shoulders. If required by the force, roll a second time. This is how parachutists train from a hight of 5 meters without a parachute.
