Hey.
Just wondering if anyone has been to or climbed at some rocks called "The Pinnacles" up near Buffalo. My family is from near there, and I often drive past, looking at the tops of the rocks at a distance. This weekend I'm going to hike in there to have a look.. It appears that there could be some quite steep rock there.
Anyway, I'll try and take some photos while I'm there.
Cheers,
Scratch.

'The Pinnacles' ?
Are these the rocks visible high up on the left if you take the Mt Beauty Rd (heading in Kiewa Valley direction) from Myrtleford ?
If they are, ... then they are still a bit of a mystery. I have tried to access them from the Yackandandah side but was unsuccessful ...

I think Dave Gairns and Chris Baxter climbed there many years ago. I can't remember much but it was a 2 or 3 pitch climb. It might be in the East Victoria guide.

Well remembered Kieran, I just grabbed the guide book and it describes a 3 pitch 16 put up in 1977 by Mr D. Gairns and Mr P. Mckeand. No other routes are listed.
Let us all know what you find.
Cheers, Rupert

Rupert, I can't remember any other climbs from that area.
I don't know how to say this but maybe there's a shit-load of new routes waiting to be done here. It's too far away from home for me but it might be that this area has just one multi-pitch route to offer but maybe not.
Have fun.

Cool. Well I'm heading up there this weekend to have a look. Bad weather and no belayer means I won't be climbing much, but the CFA maps should get me in there to have a look at least. Was there any description of how to get there in the guide book? Otherwise I might just head straight up the hill, it's not THAT far :-)

I suppose I'm meant tot try and sell you a guidebook at this stage ;) ... but what the hell:
"Melways Map 622 F8 - Information NOT VERIFIED
Happy Valley Road runs between Ovens on the Oven Valley Highway and juts south of Running Creek on the Kiewa Highway.Drive to a 4WD track which leads North from Happy Valley Road to Mudgee Gorge. Cars can be left at the farm there. Walk through the scrub for 45 Minute to the base of the cliff."
Good Luck!

I think you should ask permission at the farm and carry a fully charged Hilti and spare battery or a fuelled Ryobi.

yep, that was the way I was going to go in. My folks only live 5 minutes away from there :-) There are a lot of 4WD tracks up there for the pine plantations, but lacking a 4WD, it looks like I'm walking in :-) I drove up there a while ago in my ute, but didn't get very far. There's actually a trail that seems to go most of the way in, it runs through a property, and they have a sign saying "fire access only". I checked this out though, and it seems it's a public road.. Anyway, I'll let you all know what it's like.
Cheers,
Billy

Hi Billy,
how did it go? Any potential or just a long walk for one climb?
Cheers Martin
