Afternoon all, looking at potentially migrating to Melbourne and wanting to get to grips with what bouldering is available in and around Melbourne. Had a look on the site at the various areas and it appears that there isn't a lot locally in terms of numbers of problems.
Is there much of a bouldering community in Melbourne??? Any new areas being developed (ie. as in real rock not man made walls)??? Anything particularly good within an hour's drive????
Any info would be appreciated.
Cheers

I hear what you are saying but in the photos of the various sport climbing areas there appear to be numerous boulders strewn around that don't feature in the guides. Is it just a question of lack of development or are there no holds on the boulders generally and hence no problems?

The key point is 'in and around Melbourne'. The 'various sport climbing areas' you refer to are all about 3.5 hours' drive from Melbourne. If you can deal with that sort of commute, then knock yourself out. If you're keen on developing new problems, then the Grampians could be your life's work. The amount of undeveloped rock is truly gobsmacking.

The other thing you have to remember about Gramps bouldering is alot of development has gone on and the problems are lucky to have a name, let alone grade and be recorded!
But knock yourself out, it's still a first ascent for you!
