We spent Sat on Mt Difficult and only decided not to do another great multi there on Sunday late Sat night because of the possible weather change Sunday afternoon.

This early fire should exaggerate the importance of camp fire responsibilities and maintenance, including proper dousing of campfires! The fire was reported around 2.30pm, i assume long after the camper's had packed up and left for home and around the time we would be heading up the third pitch. Not only could this have had grave consequences for myself and my climbing partner had we made the decision to climb there, but there was also a group of around 10 over-night hikers in the region aswell (all came out safe). The fire pits are 10 - 15 meters away from the car park so there is no excuss for not carring 10 - 20 liters of water in the boot to properly douse a fire!

Of course climber where not responsible for this as we hopefully have alot more respect for life and the environment in which we enjoy our sport.

Lightning strikes are part of nature. There is no excuss for acts of stupidity like this!!
