I don't really care if people like Dan Osman or Rocky like to solo and do risky things. If they can make a buck doing what they enjoy then good on 'em i say. I wouldn't call them careless or reckless as i'm pretty sure they're doing the exact opposite while up there...

Pushing your limits where a small mistake could mean life in a wheelchair or death is an experiance worth having. John Muir, Rick White, Bert Salmon, Reinhold Messner. These people did/do some very risky things that were considered total madness in their time. Yet are now regarded by some as 'pioneers' or at the very least... bold.

People die every day, fact of life. You could die in a 10m plummet, get hit by a bus, heart attack, maybe cancer or even grow old, piss and shit yourself for a decade while living on a diet of mush only to loose your marbles and eventually die. I know which i'd prefer... If this scares you or you are worried about what your family might think... go live in a padded cell.

I knew a few SES members, have bushwalked with a few and have also witnessed them 'rescue' an injured climbed out at Frog. They would be the LAST people i would call for help in a climbing/bushwalking situation. Remember that although they might be good as helping hands when your roof gets blown into the neighbours yard, they are not trained to do vertical rope work or conduct serious search and rescue operations. The average fitness level of SES members is also pretty low... Don't get me wrong they provide a valuable service to the comunity, however i'm glad organizations such as FMR exist.
