This weekend we are going to fraser island for 2 weeks (lucky us) and my boyfriend thinks im crazy for taking my climbing shoes. But i figure there must be some rocks around to do some light bouldering. Has anyone been bouldering on fraser?

You'll be scratching to find anything worthwhile. Fraser is a sand island. There are rocks on some of the headlands which the sand built up behind to form the island. Like most places it has become more restricted over the years. Its an awesome place though.

hmm.. there's vague escarpment type things in the middle/north of the island but you will die a painful death if you try and climb on them, they're piles of sand not rock. i think you'll be lucky to find anything climbable apart from trees, buildings and tall tourists.

Try Qurank.com - i have seen several topics about this before. The short story is - don't bother - its
totally chossy.

ooh... this doesn't sound good... 2 whole weeks with no climbing.. only beaches and lakes and resorts with 4 swimming pools... and 4wds... i dunno if ill cope!
couldn't find anything using the qurank.com search. I also googled "fraser island" bouldering but no luck. still i reckon i will have enough room for 2 little pairs of climbing shoes right?
thanks for the disheartening tips tho guys!

Oh before I forget don't swim in the ocean. Lots of sharks.

you can always find a nice looking chair or try a bit of this stuff:

although it can get quite intimate.. when you're drunk you might start finding holds you otherwise wouldn't think of using (for both guys and girls)

The rocks around Waddy Point which is the headland just north of Middle Rocks and the Champagne Pools is somewhere that you can clamber around on but be warned that the rock is very sharp.
There are some routes on Indian Head. You could try to do a traverse around the front of Indian Head.
I would definitely advise against trying to boulder any of the coffee rock that is exposed around the beaches. That stuff just crumbles off in your hands. Fun for walking around in amongst. Sometimes the waves create weird shapes that you can clamber around and about but pulling on is out.
Fraser Island is way fun.

yeh toppy indian head, (wear a helmet!) and freak out the tourons! can't remember exactly but i think the rock was ok there. you could rap in on the ocean side. I was sussing out some potential lines when i was there in Feb.. can't really remember much more. No bouldering anywhere tho.
