I will be arriving in Melbourne on Wednesday (returning late Friday night) and was wondering what people would recommend in terms of sport climbs near Melbourne. Also wondering if anyone is available for a climb on any of these days? I will have a car and gear sans rack.
I know this request is at short notice, but thought I would give it a try.

Check out the guide section on this website. IMO Youyangs and Camel's Hump present the better options for sport climbing within an hours drive of Melbourne. But yeah as Neil said Gramps would be great if you had time (also araps but 4 1/2 hours drive out of Melb)

Remember it's winter currently Steph! Werribee is okay if it's not windy, You Yangs are another reasonable winter option. Camels Hump would be freezing!!
If a car and partner can be found, definitely a couple of days up in the Grampians would be the best option.

Gramps (and Cathedrals) are the best climbing close to Melb. I've done day trips in the past to the Gramps and they were great.
Mind you, day and a 1/2 trips (head up the night before) are much easier on the body and mind.

Please note kcwat's request for a climbing partner was for 24-26 August 05...
I agree rob668 re Catherdrals. The area has a good mix of routes trad and sport up to grade 26 and decent bouldering too with easy access..

Umm .. not trying to hijack this thread, but what's good in the Cathedrals between 18-22?
Lots of nice stuff 11-17 but I don't have much personal knowledge above that point .. there was a 21 left of Xanthene that I did a while back, any others?

Sunset Strip has (allegedly) good single pitch routes in the low 20's.

I'll go through the guide tonight and give you the virtual tour gfdonc. Quite a nice array of routes and styles in that grade range... unfortunately most involve a good walk to 'warm up'!
Edit: I have added a new topic in the Crag & Route Beta Forum.
