Are you referring to a "Tyrolean Traverse"?? If you're not sure, there's a pic of one here:

no... the principle is the same but we slide down the rope/cable with a pulley!!! not by the force of the hands. the rope/cable it's strained with some inclination so we can go down the rope/cable easily and fast... at the end of the rope/cable there's a device to absorb the energy gained and stop the traverse as smooth as we can.
the traverse i want to do it's about 330m long... (we call it SLIDE in my country-Portugal, i allways knew with that name...)

I tried to look some information on, but I did not obtain nothing! :(
if somebody know something on this technique, i would be very thankful, and when this project will be fulfilled i'll invite you it all for a adrenalin ride :)

it's a project that i will try to develop with some friends
it will be a permanet "Slide" for everyone who like it to try

There is a 'slide traverse' as Gus calls it, (we call it a 'flying fox'), set up for public use in the beachfront recreation area/park at Warrnambool.
Go past the kids one to the big one located further towards the rear of that ground. Its probably a couple of hundred metres long and starts off a tower which has been purpose built because the area it has been built on is flat land. It finishes at another smaller tower, so that you lose some momentum riding up a finishing incline. When you stop you are close enough to the ground to simply step off/let go.
Its good fun!
Perhaps he can check that one out for design.

Other than that, a Petzl catalogue from an outdoor store could give some info, or if he wants design specs he could try a library for an appropriate engineering book.
