i dont know about anyone else but i find the grades in the gramps strikingly more difficult then a
route of the same grade at mt arapiles.
does anyone else think the grampians has particulerly stiff gradeing?
perhaps its a difference in style or the routes at araps have a little less air between you and the
ground,im not sure what does everyone think?
good day.

Possibly many Araps climbs are cruisy with a bouldery crux, where as Grampian routes tend to be more sustained...hence the perceived difference in difficulty

well i find that pretty much all climbs above 18 seem alot more of everything
ie.technical,burly,sustained.
which routes in particular?, almost every single route.
an eg. Trojan & Mr Joshua,i finally climbed the latter after 13 1/2 days and trojan took a mere
4 days.(no trumpets intended)
for me the list goes on and im interested to know if anyone else finds similer difficulties
in the the style of the grampians or for that matter arapiles might seem more tricky to negotiate
for some.
im perplexed.

Before anyone else points it out, isn't Trojan 25, Mr Joshua 26? Regardless, I kinda agree although i don't see it as a problem.
All the extra effort that goes into climbing at the Gramps means I generally get more fatigued at the end of the day. Pesky details like deciding on, driving to and walking up to the crag all are not and should not be factored into the grade, but there's no doubt they can take the edge off, hey?

Unless upgraded, the first pitch is 25, the second 26

classics aside, araps gets more traffic than many of the Gramps routes, hence more opions on grades & hence a more 'refined grade'. Plus Araps has had more guides (ie more guides for the same climbs as opposed to different guides to different crags).
Perhaps the Gramps routes have not yet settled on a an agreed grade. Perhpas it can be put down to the different style of climbing also.
personally I find grades all over the place at both Araps & the gramps. If you expect the unexpected then there's no problem.

I'm inclined to think its the other way around in the 18-22 range. Maybe the rock in the Gramps suits my climbing better but I find Araps to be pretty solid at the medium grades. The routes at Araps can be very polished whereas in the gramps you can normally smear a lot easier when the footholds aren't there.

On a related note, I notice some low/middle grade routes at Araps seem to have crept up since I originally climbed them. I'll start another thread...
