i'm going to canberra this weekend and wanna sneak in some climbs in between voting and floriade. can anyone point me in the direction of some single pitch stuff in the ACT? maybe somewhere that includes routes not too demanding so i can set up a toprope for my little sis.

I would suggest Gibraltar Peak or Kambah Rocks.
Gibraltar Peak is mostly single pitch leading and toproping on granite. Routes such as 'juveniles and geriatrics' 15 and 'skippy's slab' 14 would be good toproping/top belay options. See 'ACT Granite' Guidebook (can buy from Mountain Disasters on Lonsdale Street Braddon).
Kambah Rocks is really only toproping (leading is bit contrived and desparate) on a good 10-15 metre high rhyodacite (volcanic) cliff next to the Murumbidgee River. Grades Mostly in the low 20's but a good 14 and I think an 18 or two. Again, have a look in the guidebook. If it's a good day there is swimming in the river. Short walk in near town too.
Cheers

orroral ridge.
best place for short routes on granite, view not as spectacular as gibralta...but access is easyer(gibralta involves some funcky forestry tracks)
adn there is also ginindera falls in norther canberra, there is a small entry fee but access is ridiculisly easy adn its all bolted adn has shinny new ring bolts at the top of the climbs good range of grades also.

Ginninderra falls is out due to closure. Orroral is your best bet if you don't have a 4wd. Access to Gilbralter is tricky at the best of times.
If you want a local to show the ropes, give me a ring on 0438413926
