Past the Northen Group? Are you a crazy person? There is a good deal of clean solid rock on the front, some of it even, not badly travelled. Sorry, no beta. I bet you could get a good earfull at the Pines, though don't believe a word of it.

Theres some good line on the back side, I've only climbed at cyclope but some of the rest looks ok, either try and get hold of Kieren, nathan, or simey, I think they have all established routes around there.

Yes there are some very steep lines, yes many have been climbed, yes there is lots of friable loose rock, but I think the absence of topos and route description is quite deliberate.
Some vague details are given in Louise Shephards old guide.
The place has an incredible remote mystique despite its proximity to well developed areas. Screaching of raptors fighting terrible territorial battles in the morning thermals. Enjoy your exploration but think carefully about the impact of putting up and popularising a route. I thinks its obscurity of access protect this interest, along with the incredible rock quality of the front side by comparison.

A Map and topo for one of the back areas was published in Argus April 2003.
Written info is on the VCC new routes site at http://www.vicclimb.org.au
How do you manage weekend trips from QLD Kenny?

The lack of topos certainly makes it interesting. Grab Loiuse's guide and choose a day when its not too hot is my advice. Scope it as best you can from the track before starting to walk in. For such a flat area it is remarkably easy to lose sight of the rock you were heading for.
Each time we've ventured around the far side of Araps it has been an adventure. I've never run into another group around there. It gives you an idea of what the front side might have been like before it "cleaned up with traffic".

Yeah, but Kenny, are you sure it's The Far Side you're after?
Don't you mean South Park?

I'm not sure if the road's open around the back yet. You can walk easily to Cyclop's Eye but other places are a much longer, though quite pleasant walk if the road is closed.
