Regarding original post thought; I think some climbs that follow rising traverse lines favour particular approach styles, along with offset corners and cracks, and this coupled with the majority of the population being right handed could lead to the conclusion groveller has drawn.

As for gear racking, I have some of each type and size on both sides of my harness so as not to be caught out for placements.
My dominant hand is my right and I find finicky placements easier with it as a result.
