Just to let everyone know that Steve Craddock died earlier this month. Steve climbed the very first routes at Arapiles on that day, when it all began, with Greg Lovechild. Alison his daughter wanted to say that he was cremated with his favourite boots on. This gives an idea of his wicked humour and what a great individual he was. Passing of the old guard, will be missed by many.

As posted on the VCC's facebook page:
Alison Rentoul -> Victorian Climbing Club
Friends of Arapiles in Victoria, Australia - I wanted to let you know that one of the original climbing pioneers of Arapiles, Steve Craddock, my father, passed away on the 12th of January. :( In accordance with his wishes, he was cremated with his old climbing boots on. Gone to the great climbing cliffs in the sky, ready for a whole new world of adventures. <3

My condolences to all close to Steve.
With the recent passing of two iconic members from our Climbing Community, is, or, are there any thoughts out there as to a Memorial for climber at Araps? I have been mulling this over for while and am happy to be involved.

Personally I am opposed to memorials. The dead live in our memories and that should be enough.
I never met Steve but he has my respect.

Another sad day for family and friends of a real pioneer. Steve's and his father's legacy extends beyond plaques and signs. Everytime someone climbs one of the wonderful routes on Flinders Island or at Arapiles, their memory is celebrated. The best, long-lasting memorial to Steve, Roland and to all pioneer climbers would be to maintain a weed and erosion free cliff and park.
