descent path north jawbones

Hi every one I'm new to the forum, could any one give me advice on the best descent path for the north jawbones? Currently we have been using the old path at the north end, over grown with some horrid spikey plant.

Rap anchors were installed specifically to combat this issue.

I've always hated the walk down from the top which I think was from the north (?) and ended up around the bottom of Fruit hustler... The first time I did it I walked down in thongs. I reckon I'll throw myself from the top before I do that again;)

Sounds like you had as much fun on that walk off Mikey, as I did walking out from the bottom of the back wall at Buffalo once. I swore I'd solo the face before walking out again.

I have done the rap off three times now (four people, two ropes) and don't consider it worth the effort. It might be worthwhile if you only had two people (and two ropes - which is not so usual). Aside from the time that it takes for 4 X 2 descents - as it is a double rap - tossing the ropes onto the slab below inevitably means that they don't uncoil neatly and that the first to rap has to sort the mess out.

It is actually much quicker to walk West from off the top of the Nth Jawbone, pick up the walking track that heads South to The Farmyard. Before this track gets to the Farmyard descend East down the Jawbone Creek Track (this is the same one that you ascend to the crag from the car park) Follow the pad back up to the base of the crag. This is best done with shoes rather than bare feet.

You can also rap from the chains to the north of the speigals top-out with double fifties. This drops to just above the first belay of Speigals - you can rap from here on the skinny cherry ballart of death.

I have walked the entire ridge from sugarloaf....down thru the descent that spinaal describes and back up the road in bare feet...(for a strange reason)... and think that you are all a bunch of cleared path pansies letting a few prickles bother ya...after 3 and a bit hrs I reckon I had a thousand things stickin into me....but it was the native wasps biting me that really pissed me off and made my feet sore and swell.

I'll second that. It takes less than 30 mins to descend and walk back up to the base of the cliff via Matt/spiinal's instructions. And it's actually possible, though more time consuming and certainly not comfortable, to do so barefoot. Unless you're shortman, as he only needs to take one step for every five by us shorter mortals. ;P

Jossy is on chocky....smart arse...look at this way....you get fitter walkin with me, :P

And I agree with you and Matt....the rap off is a pain in the arse even if it aint windy, and it's a fine walk if a few prickles don't bother ya. Totally doable without being even remotely epic.
