Would be good to see, especially since Mac Uni had one of the first climbing walls (outdoor) in the country...All the holds are in situ brick and concrete, and befitting when it was put up (1970s?) includes chimneys and mantels everywhere.

The climbing club would still occasionally top-rope off the rusty railings at the top of the old wall until about 8 years ago. After which time the fancy new gym, pool and reasonable safety standards arrived.

Mac Uni actually had an indoor wall for a while. I went to see it a few times but it was closed and they were playing badminton under it.

You can get rid of your netting and benefit from some extra revenue from the badminton players hangdog. Would be good scaring them as people fell from the overhang without the rope clipped into the hooks half way up...

I climbed on that Mac Uni wall a number of times when it was being managed by Dulcie & John Norman who at that time also owned/ran the Wetherill Park Climbing Gym.

I don't recall any real conflict between the badminton operation and the climbing operation.

And when you think about it, what a waste it is that so many gymnasiums around the country (the world?) utilise only the horizontal surface of their space while the quite considerable vertical surfaces of their enclosures go unused.

I dont want to highlight the benefits of badminton verses climbing to my bosses any more than i have to. As the badminton courts are way more profitable than indoor climbing, although i am envious of the space that is available to them and therefore not available for climbing.
