On the 1st weekend in November the Wimmera’s foremost arts event, the renowned Nati Frinj biennale will stage another festival of amazing art and community events. Over the last decade the Natimuk community have demonstrated their ability to create art the equal of any in Australia. Artists and art audiences have realised this and travel from all over Australia to Natimuk on this weekend.

And what is most amazing is that it all comes from a small town of 500 people. 10% of the town are climbers and have a lot to do with creating and running the festival.

The Frinj director Kate Finnerty is currently firming up the program of the many music, visual art, workshop and performance events. This will be released soon.

As one of the Wimmera’s premier events, the Frinj will again attract thousands of people to the region. If you’ve missed the fun before don’t miss this year.

The highlight of this year’s festival will be the collaboration between Natimuk artist Dave Jones and the Village of New Performance called Art Pumping Action, funded by Vic Health. This involves a number of bicycle-powered games aiming at local children, youth and the hard core lycra set. These will use the latest virtual reality gaming technology that has just become available. Nati Frinj again is pushing the edge of art technology.

Other projects are less technological. At the very top of Mount Arapiles grows a tiny native vine tightly twining itself around other plants for support. In Tangled and Twisted, a small group of artists led by Mary French and many, many community members will recreate a much larger version of this vine and reintroduce it to Natimuk’s central corridor where it once grew.

One of the stars of last Frinj’s extravaganza Feeling the Ceiling, internationally celebrated cabaret artist Isabel Hertaeg, will return with her new show Death by Soprano. Johnny Danger will be here with his Little Weirdo’s Picnic. And so much more.

One if the Frinj events that might interest Chockstoners,

is the Arapiles 50th Celebratory Forum (working title)
In celebration of 50th Anniversary of climbing at Mount Arapiles , this museum- like educational exhibition aims to bring together climbers, past, present & future and various experts to explore the idea of sustainability & climbing at Mt Arapiles. The exhibition space will also form a meeting place for a forum -style event whereby experts and those with an opinion can have their say and participate in a Q&A session/s on the Monday to end the Nati Frinj program. The last 50 years of rock climbing at Mount Arapiles is something to celebrate. What will the next 50 years of climbing bring?

The Nati Frinj program is now out. Lots of action packed fun if you can drag yourself away from the cliff.
