The post 'came to me' when reading about Dr Craw's book launch
Can someone explain to me the origins of the following:
"In the 70s he swanned around with Greg Child (Java), Chris Piesker (Aspro), Giles Bradbury, and started Kim Carrigan (Captain Triangle) climbing"
Feel free to add your own, along with the explanation

Greg looked sort of pre-nanderthal so he was called Java Man (an early hominid contender). Aspro is slow dope, he's also called Crispy. Kim was always smiling like a loon and he had a big triangular grin. I was always called Claw as Baxter (Melon) found the pun too good to resist, lucky my second name wasn't Hunt.
There were many others, Fluipper and Yarbo from the valley. In Sydney in the 90s we had too many Daves so there were Jewish Dave, Mongy Leg Dave, Dirty Dave, Dave the Dude, etc.
The height of inventiveness was the nickname we had for John Smoothy, Crunch.

The ethically upright pair of John Smart and Norm Booth threatened the punky eurodogging free-for-all and were promplty named Johnny Notso and Telephone Booth.

Does he need a telephone? I thought everyone, everywhere could just hear him when he spoke... ;-)

Look, in my native Sheffield in the 80's there was not one but two, yes, two, chaps with the nickname of 'Smeg'. One was tall and the other was short, Big Smeg and Little Smeg.
I'm going now....
