Indonesian Climbing Community Help them out

I have been living and climbing in Indonesia for the last few years. East Java has a small but ver motivated climbing community that shares gear. When I arrived, I donated several pairs of climbing shoes, harnesses, and odds and end of rope, draws, binners, a couple sets of old cams. The gear sort of became community property and was very welcomed. On group trips, several climbers share shoes, harness, a nd climb barefoot to participate.

While the economy is on the rise, the average Indonesian’s income is still that of a developing country. Climbers here use gear that should have been retired long ago, and laugh when toes are sticking out the front of their shoes. I’ve donated what I can, so has my business. Actually, my business is now focusing on anchor replacement because existing bolts are mostly 8mm galvanized anchors placed a decade or more ago.

Being close neighbors, who will soon have East Java as an accessible and safe climbing destination, are any of you willing to donate and ship used climbing gear. Old belay devices gathering dust, I gave four tubers that were hot pink and hot green at one time, worn out ropes, old shoes that sit in a storage box packed in your garage, those old oval binners and d-shape carabiners you have retire or upgraded to more modern gear.

I can provide a contact address. Gear will be used by local climbing clubs and will either be contributed anonymously or with your name. Either way is fine. The gear will end up around climbers’ waist, on their feet, and in their hands.

With no more used gear to donate on my end, my climbing friends and I are now focusing on using stainless steel anchors to rebolt routes, we’re also giving bolting clinics, and teaching climbers to safely use those donated cams.

Look around, find the old gear, put it in a box and ship it to Indonesia. Consolidated a few people’s together if that helps. Post pictures here to get other’s excited. Please email me a picture of what is coming, sometimes, things disappear in route, with proof I can usually get things back.

Well done Guangzhou for all your efforts so far, it's good to hear that there is a psych crew of supportive climbers over there.
I will ask around my mates and try a get a bit of spare gear to send over.
One question if I wouldn't climb on my rope should I send it or bin it?

Fast reply, thanks for the efforts on your end. Every little bit helps.

No need to PM, hoping that several people will be asking for it.

I'm sure i have a bunch of stuff i could chip in - old shoes and ropes, biners etc. All safe.
Happy to send but would need someone in Blackheath to come and grab it - I just got home from hospital after destroying my knee paragliding, so on the couch for 6 weeks, and who know how long before I can climb, or fly.

Thanks Julian, hope you recover quickly and 100%. Blackheath, I spent a few weeks there while exploring some excellent climbing in the Blue-Mountains. So much excellent climbing there.

Hey Pete - you could set up a drop box at the Ledge (& Garbie could too at Sydney Indoor?)
I'm sure a few of the regulars could contribute enough stuff, each probably only has one or two things - but in bulk it may work out more efficient to fill a crate?
I'd be happy to put a call out to clubs.

Unfortunately all my spare gear gets pilfered by noobs... as well as gear that isn't spare yet!

I would set a drop box if i thought people would drop stuff in and not take it out. Most of the people who come in here are uni climbing club members. They are too busy hiding the club equipment under the bed for personal use and as a result don't need or have spare stuff.
Anyway you have lots of stuff that you wont be using as you have a child and wont be at the crag anytime time soon. Thats why i have spare things to donate.
Seriously if people want to donate they can leave it at The Ledge and i will pass it on.
Oh and thanks for blowing my cover!!

Not sure if any of the stuff has been sent yet, but nothng recieved on this end.

If you ship something, can you let me know. Maybe post some photos of it here so I know what's "suppose" to arrive. Mail here is sketchy at best.
