I'm trying to weave a doormat from his old 11mm rope. Alcohol helps.

Good one, and I like the title pun!

Hey mikl, if you ever felt the need to raise money for a cause, then I reckon that you could do worse than auction off this historic item hand woven by one of the remaining legends in the game.
I know I would bid on it!

Once you're done, embroider "Baxter is a Shit" with 3mm accessory cord in a contrasting colour.

Apologies if this has been covered in a previous post...

Can anyone clarify who decided to take a drill to "Baxter is a shit" on Castle Crag, after CB passed away? I never met Chris, but the impression I have gained from bits of climbing literature and chat on this site like this is that he had a sense of pride in the way he was viewed amongst the climbing community. I thought the graffiti was a great example of Australian humour, and felt the myths and stories about who wrote it only made the inscription more interesting. So I, and others, found the desecration of the graffiti to be really sad. A piece of climbing culture was ruined, seemingly by an act of self-righteousness.

Considering that I never knew Chris, I guess that it is possible that there are some good reasons I'm not aware of for the "removal" of the graffiti. If so, I'd love to hear about it. That way me and my mates may not feel so peeved every time we walk past Castle Crag.

Andrew Thomson did it in Nov 1969 when we were trying out our new aid rack and listening to the 2nd moon landing on our transistor. He was bored by my slow progress and decided to entertain himself. Copped a lot of flack, but Chris would be disappointed (as am I) at the additional damage.

Welcome to Chockstone Timhanc.

This post would appear to disagree with yours??

I think Ben was asking who defaced the inscription, not who made the inscription.
